Farming Practices - CSA Model
The Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model of food production creates honest connections between the producer, the consumer, and the land. CSA members make a financial commitment at the beginning of the season entering into a contractual relationship of shared risk and shared abundance with the farmer. In exchange, members receive a weekly share of the harvest including a newsletter to connect with the farm and recipes to aid in the use of all the delicious produce.
Shares are packed each week prior to pickup time, so selection and choice are not the same as shopping at a grocery store. Food from the grocery store travels on average 1500 miles from its source to your plate. Eating locally and seasonally is at the core of the CSA. Selection is based on what will grow in this area of Colorado through the complexities of our season. Our goal is to balance diversity and popularity when selecting vegetables to grow and to provide usable portions in each share.
Your membership commitment strengthens our local economy by restoring producer and consumer accountability, and reintroducing healthy, high-quality foods into the choices available to consumers. By supporting a local agricultural business you are helping to ensure the preservation of local agricultural land and open spaces.
Through the CSA model there are many opportunities to connect with the land and farmers producing your food. Working memberships and volunteer opportunities aid in the development of a deeper relationship with the farm. When picking up your share take some time to walk around the garden and talk with the farmers at the market stand. Tours of the farm are also available upon request.
Weathervane Farm is committed to providing you with responsibly produced, high-quality, healthy, beautiful food. We look forward to creating a relationship with you!
